Kaiser Permanente’s Trauma Prevention Program
Safer Communities
The Kaiser Permanente Trauma Prevention Program is dedicated to promoting healthy behaviors and preventing unintentional injuries and deaths through intervention, education and outreach.
Developed in 2009 as an important part of our South Sacramento Level II Trauma Center, the Trauma Prevention Program focuses on partnerships, education and program funding to carry out our mission.
Partnerships
Kaiser Permanente partners with local community groups, government agencies and schools to make our communities safer. Some of our current partnerships include:
Street Teams, City of Sacramento and City of Elk Grove
We work with both city programs to coordinate and develop awareness campaigns and street outreach programs that provide support services to at-risk youth to reduce gang-related activity, affiliation and violence.
Valley Hi Youth & Adult Coalition
This youth-led coalition works to reduce violence and drug and alcohol use in the Valley Hi community and trains local youth to be leaders who advocate for positive change.
Sacramento Youth and Alcohol Coalition
Kaiser Permanente South Sacramento is an active participant in this community coalition led by the UC Davis Level I Trauma Center. This public-private coalition raises awareness of the risks of underage drinking and to identify evidence-based strategies to implement locally.
Education
Programs for First Responders
The Trauma Center offers many educational programs for the emergency medical services community, most with accompanying credits. Topics include EMT trauma overview, trauma transport and triage, traumatic brain injury, and chest and abdominal injuries.
Programs for Schools
Every 15 Minutes is an effective alcohol-prevention program that allows teens from area high schools to safely experience the consequences of underage drinking and driving. ER physicians and staff perform realistic mock treatments on teen participants who are involved in a staged drunk-driving crash.

Kaiser Permanente’s Educational Theatre Program (ETP) is our signature school-based health and safety education program that teaches students about healthy lifestyles, conflict resolution, violence prevention, and appropriate safety gear. ETP provides free theatrical performances throughout Northern California, including at 74 schools in south Sacramento County in 2008.
Programs for the Community
Kaiser Permanente actively participates in a variety of community events focused on safety and injury prevention. Additionally, we offer many classes to the community that are designed to promote safe behaviors and prevent injuries, including CPR, Home Safety and Fall Reduction, and the AARP Driver Safety Program.
Program Funding
